  • Gareth Bale says goodbye to Real Madrid teammates and Zinedine Zidane ahead of Tottenham transfer
The 31-year-old has completed his medical in Madrid and will return to Tottenham on a one-year loan after an agreement was reached which will see his £600,000-a-week salary co-funded by the two clubs. Bale is due to fly to London on Friday alongside Sergio Reguilon, who Tottenham are also signing from Real Madrid in a £27.6 million deal. According to Spanish television station Cuatro, Bale was at Madrid’s training complex on Thursday to say farewell to his teammates. Despite being cast aside by Zidane last season, Bale is still a popular figure inside Madrid’s dressing room, with the players even nicknaming him ‘the golfer’. It’s also claimed that Bale was keen to say goodbye to Zidane as he does not hold a grudge over how he has been treated, and the forward wanted to wish Madrid’s head coach good luck for the upcoming campaign. Since joining Madrid from Spurs for £85m in 2013, Bale has helped the Spanish club win four Champions League trophies and two La Liga titles. But under Zidane last season, Bale made just 20 appearances in all competitions and played just 100 minutes of football when the campaign restarted in June.
